Cinema al MAXXI
Cinema al MAXXI returns from 5 February to 5 April with a packed programme of previews, documentaries, classic films, conversations with writers and directors, family films, and a course on film criticism.
Organised by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma and MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo, the programme is curated by Mario Sesti and based at the MAXXI auditorium each Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
The programme is divided into three sections: Extra, Classic and Family. English-language films will be screened in their original version, with Italian subtitles.
Every Wednesday the Extra section features previews of major movies, documentaries and auteur films. The programme begins on 5 February with the award-winning Inside Llewyn Davis by Joel and Ethan Coen, while other highlights over the following two months include 12 Years a Slave by Steve McQueen; Her by Spike Jonze; and Enough Said by Nicole Holofcener, a comedy featuring the final performance of James Gandolfini.
The Classic section pays homage to cinematic masterpieces, and each Saturday at 18.00 and again at 21.00 two films will be screened: a double bill with a common theme, history or affinity. The programme begins on 8 February.
The Family section takes place every Sunday, in collaboration with Alice nella Città - the independent sidebar for youth-oriented cinema held in conjunction with the Rome Film Festival. The programme begins on 9 February and offers an overview of the best new animated films, and includes a special day-long event devoted to Luzzati, the celebrated Italian set designer, animator and illustrator, on 16 March.
Tickets for Cinema al MAXXI can be purchased at the MAXXI museum ticket office or at Ticketone.it.
