Claustromania: contemporary art in Rome cloister
16-29 Oct. The former convent of S. Alessio on the Aventine Hill will open its rarely-visited cloister to an exhibition of contemporary art for the first time, from 16-29 October.
Claustromania will feature the works of Riccardo Monachesi, Giovanna Martinelli, Ninì Santoro and Mara van Wees, and is curated by Daniela Gallavotti Cavallero. The exhibition is organised by AdA - Associazione Amici dell'Aventino and by the Istituto Nazionale Studi Romani, with the collaboration of Letizia Lanzetta, director of the Institute.
In addition, during Rome Art Week, there will be several encounters between artists and figures from the art world, guided tours and presentations. On 22 October at 11.30, there will be a debate entitled OPEN BOX dalla land art al parco scultoreo urbano, curated by Roberta Melasecca and Mara van Wees; later on 22 October at 15.30, there will be round table discussion, chaired by Claudio Strinati and Riccardo Monachesi, under the theme: Il contemporaneo incontra l’antico, CASO O NECESSITÀ?
The inauguration is at 17.00 on 16 October and the exhibition runs until 29 October. The exhibition can be visited Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri from 09.00-14.00 and Wed 09.00-17.00. There are additional special openings on 19 Oct (09.00-12.00), 23 Oct (17.00-20.00) and 29 Oct (16.00-19.00).
