Cy Twombly Photographer
7 Oct-22 Nov. The American Academy presents Italy’s first retrospective of photographs by the celebrated US artist Cy Twombly, who died in Rome in 2011 after living in the Italian capital for decades.
The exhibition features photographs that span over 50 years, providing insights into the artist’s interests, creative processes, and studio.
Although remembered principally as a painter and sculptor, Twombly was also drawn to the medium of photography which he used to create evocative and blurry images of still lifes, landscapes (including his home at Gaeta south of Rome) and portraits of friends and family.
The exhibition is held in conjunction with Fotografia, the Rome International Photography Festival and can be visited from 16.00-19.00, Fri- Sun. See also Edith Schloss article on the life of Cy Twombly.
