Dominik Lang: Naked Figures, Dressed Figurines
10 Oct-5 Dec. The Gallery Apart presents its second solo exhibition by Dominik Lang, two years after the unveiling of a monumental work by the Czech artist at the inauguration of the gallery's space in the Ostiense district.
Lang's conceptual exhibition investigates the relationship between man, as sculpted figure, and the art-making process of the artist himself. The show also examines the relationship between the model and its representation, between sculpture and space, and makes use of his father's modernist sculptures.
Due to then communist regime, Lang's father transformed the family home in Prague into a studio where he was forced to exhibit all his work. This had a profound effect on the young Lang who grew up literally surrounded by art, even though it wasn't officially recognised as such.
Lang has exhibited around the world and his works are held in numerous public and private international institutions.
