Don Giovanni by Mozart.

5-8 July 2006. Conducted by Zbynek Mller, directed by Vclav Kaslik/Jir Nekvasil, set designs by Josef Svoboda, with Roman Janl, Peter Mikuls, Adriana Kohtkov, Elvira Pavla Vykopalov, and with the Orchestra, Choir and Ballet of the Prague National Theatre.

Mozarts Don Giovanni is being performed at the Ravenna Festival (5, 7 and 8 July) by the National Theatre of Prague, where the opera was performed for the first time in 1787 conducted by Mozart in person. Everyone in this production is from Prague; the singers, orchestra, chorus, conductor Vaclav Kaslik, the head of set design Josef Svoboda, as well as the costume designer Theodor Pistek (Oscar winner for the film Amadeus by Milos Forman). Also in Ravenna on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Mozarts birth Riccardo Muti and the Luigi Cherubini orchestra will perform Ave verum, Exultate jubilate and I Vespri KV 339 (10 and 11 July). These sacred music scores are among the most beautiful of Mozarts work. In the other concert in the programme, Ricardo Muti changes composer and returns to his great love: Giuseppe Verdi, performing some of his religious music Quattro pezzi sacri, Stabat Mater and Te Deum together with lay scores taken from the Forza del destino and from Don Carlo (16 July). Paolo Di Nicola
