This production comes from Venice, where it appeared in April 2002. Director Italo Nunziata has set the opera in the 1930s, transforming it into a kind of Italian melodrama a lively comedy of the "white telephone" films era, which makes explicit reference to the cinema of the period through the screening of film excerpts. Don Pasquale is an entertaining chamber opera featuring only four protagonists: baritone Alberto Rinaldi, tenor Antonio Siragusa, and in her Rome debut soprano Inva Mula , known for her contribution to the soundtrack of Luc Bessons film Il quinto elemento, and bass Alfonso Antoniozzi. Talented, entertaining and pleasant, Antoniozzi is becoming an expert in the comic roles of Italian opera. Paolo Di Nicola
