The Teatro Comunale in Florence will stage Elektra by Richard Strauss (24 Feb-5 March 2008). The first ever performance was in Dresden on 25 January 1909, and it is an expressionist opera characterised by sharp dissonance and a furious sonority as well as a vast orchestra that often overpowers the voices.
