English language cinema in Rome: Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock
27 Nov. Jimi Hendrix fans in Rome will be pleased to hear that, for one day only, the Lux cinema is screening the August 1969 performance of Hendrix and his Band of Gyspys at the Woodstock Festival.
The movie "Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock" is being screened in cinemas around the world on what would have been the guitar legend's 70th birthday.
The film of the groundbreaking concert has been assembled from the archive of Oscar-winning director Michael Wadleigh, and includes interviews with band members Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, long-time engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang.
The documentary by Bob Smeaton will be shown before the footage of the performance which includes such classics as Voodoo Child, Fire, Purple Haze and the guitarist's dramatic rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.
