The Filmstudio in Trastevere is showing the award-winning Australian movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" in its original language version with Italian subtitles on Thursday 6 June at 20.45. Following the screening there will be a debate about the film, introduced by young filmmaker Francesco Bigi.
The 1975 drama and mystery movie was directed by Peter Weir, based on the 1967 novel by Australian writer Joan Lindsay, and stars Rachel Roberts, Vivean Gray and Anne-Louise Lambert.
The film tells the story of the disappearance of several schoolgirls and their teacher during a picnic to Hanging Rock on St Valentine's Day in 1900, and the subsequent search effort.
The movie went on to become an Australia classic, gaining a great deal of attention from the US, and showcasing the Australian Outback to a new international audience.
