The 33rd edition of the annual horror movie festival "Fantafestival" takes place from 10-16 June at the Casa del Cinema in Villa Borghese and at various cinemas around Rome.
The festival, which this year has as it theme "spaghetti horror", features national and international premieres, and sees filmmakers battling it out to win a "Pipistrello d'Oro" award for the best feature movie and short films, both Italian and foreign.
A highlight of the festival takes place on the opening night, Monday 10 June. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of William Friedkin's classic horror movie "The Exorcist", the Casa del Ciema premieres the restored and digital version of the film (in Italian) ahead of its nationwide cinema release on 19 June, for one day only.
The disturbing film, which features an extra 11 minutes of terrifying scenes cut by the director in 1973, will be preceded at 18.30 by a discussion on the theme of exorcisms, led by the Vicariate of Rome's official exorcist Fr Gabriele Amorth.
