Festival Barocco 2006.
19 Aug-18 Oct 2006. This was once a small chamber music festival that took place in intimate venues in the city of Viterbo at the end of summer. It proved so successful that it has grown into a sprawling event that spreads over the whole Tuscia region from mid-summer well into the autumn. This years programme has world class musicians who specialise in the baroque repertory such as Ton Koopman in an organ recital, Ren Clemencic at the head of the Clemencic Consort, and the Musica Antiqua Koln ensemble. Another feather in its hat is represented by the presence of the brand new Accademia Barocca di S. Cecilia, an offspring of the National Academy of Music led by Paolo Pollastri, and specialised in baroque music played on original instruments. A speciality of the festival is the performance of lost or forgotten masterpieces. This year it is the turn of a work entitled LUomo Femmina by Galuppi in the third centenary of his birth. Concerts take place in the S. Sisto Complex in Montalto di Castro, in Cellenos Castello Orsini, in the duomo in Nepi, in the church of S. Francis in Capranica, the church of S. Flaviano in Montefiascone and of course, in various Viterbo venues. All concerts begin at 21.00.
