This festival has expanded not just artistically but also geographically, with events taking place in venues as far away as Mantua and Verona, although the focus remains the industrial city of Rovereto. The busy centre boasts a new museum of contemporary art the Mart with an auditorium where many of the events take place. An integral part of the initiative is a contemporary dance workshop followed by three seminars at which dancers will show their work. The rich programme is not so much "east meets west" (although the "Nureyev" of Indian "Bharata Natyam", Raghunath Manet, is present) as interdisciplinary; electronic technology interacts with new faces and big names including Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, the successful Italian "emigrant" Emio Greco, the Ballet de Lorraine directed by Didier Deschamps, and Marcia Barcellos. There is also a host of events that include ethnic food and music.
