Founded in 1963 by the Caetani family in memory of Roffredo Caetani, musician and composer, this festival of mainly contemporary music performed by young musicians has now become a major cultural event in the province of Latina.
Concerts, workshops and study groups take place almost every evening in different locations (Cori, Fossanova, Fondi, Sabaudia, Sperlonga) although the main venue is still the Caetani castle at Sermoneta.
The festival is organised by the Campus Internazionale di Musica and focuses on contemporary music. During their life times Goffredo Petrassi and Lucio Berio were among its supporters.
This year the festival opens with an evening dedicated to Petrassi on the 110th anniversary of his birth by the Ensemble del Conservatorio di Giuseppe Verdi di Milano conducted by Mauro Bonifacio at Sermoneta. Another topic this year is la Giovane Musica Europea.
On 14 July there is a workshop of the music composed by students at the Sermoneta summer course under the guidance of the versatile Italian composer and musician Alessandro Solbiati.
On 19 July there is a jazz concert at Sermoneta. For full programme see Campus Internazionale di Musica website.
