Forma e vita di una città medievale. Leopoli-Cencelle
Archeological artefacts from Leopoli-Cencelle, a mediaeval city founded during the reign of Pope Leone IV (847-855).
The new city was built to protect the citizens of Civitavecchia from Saracen pirates who caused mayhem along the Tyrrhenian coast during the ninth century.
Divided into three sections, the exhibition reconstructs the different historical stages of Cencelle which was rediscovered 20 years ago by experts from universities in Rome, Chieti, Tuscia and Perugia.
