George Piper Dances
Described as the most compelling partnership in British dance, Michael Nunn and William Trevitt are the founders of George Piper Dances, a company which combines ballet with video clips in an attempt to make the genre more exciting and accessible. Backed by the British Council, their work Critics Choice ***** will be staged at Teatro Valle, Via del Teatro Valle 21, in Rome on 20 Dec as part of the Recitardanzando Festival.
Nunn and Trevitt spent 12 years with the Royal Ballet, where they filmed a popular television documentary entitled Ballet Boyz about life as a classical dancer. They went on to spend two years touring Japan before founding George Piper Dances in 2001 with dancers Monica Zamora, Hubert Essakow and Oxana Panchenko. Critics Choice ***** features work by five British choreographers, who divulge the secrets of the creative process in a series of fly-on-the-wall short films shown as part of the production. The programme includes Christopher Wheeldons Mesmerics, based on Philip Glasss hypnotic cello score, and Russell Maliphants Torsion, a unique male duet.
