Until 9 Jan 2005. The National Theatre of Catalonia puts on performances that help to promote Catalan-language productions in the region. This Christmas the Theatre is hosting a puppet show of the classic Hansel and Gretel tale by the Brothers Grimm about two children kidnapped by a witch, after being abandoned by their parents because there was not enough to eat at home. Perhaps surprisingly, the current production, staged by The Centre de Titelles de Lleida, features the music of Engelbert Humperdinck. The score was commissioned by the musicians sister Adelheid, who wrote the stage version. The production is intended to promote this particular version of the tale and introduce children to the world of opera.
