Il Silenzio.
7-19 Feb 2006. Created and directed by Pippo Delbono, with the Compagnia Pippo Delbono and with Danio Manfredini. Italian director Pippo Delbono first worked with the Argentinian Pepe Robledo in Denmark in 1983 as part of the Farfa group directed by Iben Nagel Rasmussen. Their joint research was aimed at forging a new theatrical language capable of translating the experiences of an actor-dancer. Since then Delbono has become an internationally acclaimed theatre director, whose speciality is to create performances that include actors and dancers from a variety of different artistic backgrounds. Il silenzio opened the Gibellina Festival in July 2000. Gibellina is a small Sicilian village which was completely devastated during the earthquake of 1968 and il silenzio is based on the memory of this catastrophe. "Im not interested in recounting history", writes Pippo Delbono. "What I want to do is dwell on that eternal moment that contains life and death in its silence. It is a world where childhood and old-age come to life again. A world of birth, death and rebirth."
