Impressionisti Danesi in Abruzzo
Almost a century ago the Abruzzo region was hit by a devastating earthquake that claimed over 30,000 casualties and destroyed the town of Avezzano.
Among the earthquake's many victims was the mountain village of Civita d’Antino which, for over 30 years, had been home to a Scandinavian artists' colony.
The Hans Christian Andersen Museum displays around 50 paintings by these plein-air Nordic artists, more than a century after their work was first exhibited at Rome's Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna (GNAM) in 1911.
