In The World
REBECCA ROSS – IN THE WORLD Friday 21 September 2012, 6.30-8.30 PM Monday-Wednesday 24-26 September 2012, 4.30-7.00 PM, and by appointment The British School at Rome, via Gramsci 61, 00197 Roma www.bsr.ac.uk ‘IN THE WORLD’ presents – for four days only – works created at the British School at Rome between July and September 2012 by Australia Council Resident Artist Rebecca Ross. The works on exhibit in the BSR Gallery will include a dual channel video projection, and a selection of collages and object-based works. The British School at Rome Fine Arts Programme is directed by Jacopo Benci. Somewhere between orientation and disorientation I am in a place in the World “In The World is the culmination of my studio residency at the British School at Rome, and the works act as translations of my experiences and influences during this time. From the motif of the Missoni fashion house to the maps within the Vatican, and artists’ Alighiero Boetti and Ketty La Rocca, these works explore conceptual and physical spaces ‘in the World’ and in Rome. My art practice spans installation, video, painting, sculpture and collage. I refer to my artworks as “exercises in mapping”; these exercises are concerned with mapping the junctures of site, situation and sensation. The varied compositional and material relationships played out in my work explore concepts of cartography, geography, place, placement and orientation.” [Rebecca Ross] Rebecca Ross (Melbourne, Australia, 1977) lives and works on the Gold Coast.
