Italy: Love It, or Leave It
On 12 November the Nuovo Cinema Palazzo in S. Lorenzo screens "Italy: Love It, or Leave It", in collaboration with the University of California Educational abroad program (UCEAP).
The movie, which is in Italian with English subtitles, is presented at 19.45 by its award-winning directors Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi, and is followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and Giorgio Mariani, a professor of American literature at Rome's La Sapienza University.
The 2011 movie follows the two directors as they decide whether they should stay in an Italy that is full of obstacles to young, creative people, or follow the path of many of their friends and leave the country.
The pair set off on an emotional road trip across Italy in an old Fiat 500, to discover what is left of their passion for their homeland and discover the truth behind the Italian way of life. On the way they find a divided, contradictory nation with a glorious past, a shaky present and an uncertain future.
