Italy-Scotland rugby game in Rome

Wanted in Rome's guide for Scottish rugby fans

There are a number of Scottish-themed events in Rome this weekend, centred around the Italy-Scotland Six Nations rugby match at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday 22 February at 14.30.

Adding to the Scottish atmosphere in the capital will be the 40 pipers and 10 drummers playing the Scottish anthem "Flower of Scotland" in the stadium just before the game. It is the largest gathering of pipers ever in Italy, comprising a number of Italian bands from all over the country, including The City of Rome Pipe Band, the first and best known in Italy.

One of the city's main Irish pubs, Scholars Lounge, is providing rugby fans with a bus to and from the stadium. The bus will leave from Scholars at 12.30, returning to the pub after the match for the "third half" so beloved of rugby fans. Those who wish to avail of the service should contact Scholars in the days leading up to the game.

There will be live music by The Shire that night at the Nag's Head, a city-centre Scottish pub, while another Scottish pub The Highlander is offering the Ultimate Scottish Weekend from 21-23 February.

Meanwhile those without tickets for the Italy-Scotland match can consult our selection of the best bars in Rome to watch the game.
