Jos Manuel Aizprua as a Photographer.
7 Oct-27 Dec 2004. Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum is showing an exhibition, entitled La Mirada moderna (Modern prospective), of photographic work by Spanish architect Jos Manuel Aizprua (1902-1936). The exhibition comprises some 100 photographs, never before displayed in public, taken with a Leica camera between 1928 and 1936. Born in San Sebastian in 1902, Aizprua moved to Madrid in 1921 to study architecture and opened a studio back in his home town in 1928. He was busy from the start. In the eight years before he died his architectural production was prolific. Probably his most notable creation was the Real Club Nntico de San Sebastin (1928-1929). The exhibition is like a visual diary of Jos Manuel Aizprua between 1928 and 1936 with sport, machine, game, architecture and the city itself forming the subject matter. Through his works, one can also feel the preoccupations of the author in these troubled years of Spanish history on the eve of the Spanish Civil War.
