Puccini’s opera is conducted by Daniele Rustione and directed by David Livermore in a new production. Italian director Livermore has directed operas at almost all of Italy’s main opera houses, with Othello and Carmen to his name in Genoa earlier this year.
In a 2012 production of La Boheme in Philadelphia Livermore used digital reproductions of masterpieces by Van Gogh, Renoir and Manet from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Puccini’s La Boheme was first performed in Turin in 1896 conducted by Toscanini, who was only 29 at the time. It is one of the most often performed operas worldwide.
