It will be performed in the original version first seen in Montecarlo on 27 March 1917, which ends with the protagonist, Magda, leaving Ruggero to return to her sad and solitary life as a kept woman in an act of sacrificial love. This finale did not satisfy Puccini, who wrote another in 1920 in which Magda, in a somewhat cowardly manner, takes advantage of Ruggero
