La Traviata by Verdi.
30 Sept and 1 Oct 2003. The opera season at Pisa also opens with La Traviata, which then moves on to Lucca (8-9 Oct) and Livorno (15-16 Oct). The production is an English interpretation by Jonathan Webb (conductor) and Lindsay Kemp (direction and costumes). The Pisa public already knows Kemp for his 1998 staging of Iris by Mascagni, when in a particularly striking finale the disembodied spirit of Iris rose to the sky in a shower of petals.
