15 Sept-5 Oct. Rome’s annual appointment with contemporary drama offers a selection of successful productions from international drama festivals, and in the past has featured heavyweights such as Eimuntas Nekrosius, William Kentridge and Alain Platel.
It also acts as a platform for innovative Italian drama, and offers a number of productions for younger theatre fans.
Highlights of the 22nd edition of the festival include Il Trentesimo Anno by Ingeborg Bachmann (15 Sept); Pouilles: Le ceneri di Taranto by Amedeo Fago (17 Sept); Vita di Edoardo Secondo d'Inghilterra (21 Sept) and La Madre (26 Sept) by Bertolt Brecht; La Lunga Vita di Marianna Ucrìa from the novel by Dacia Maraini (27 Sept); and Villa Dolorosa: Tre compleanni falliti by Rebekka Kricheldorf (5 Oct).
The productions are in Italian and the festival takes place in different theatre venues around Rome including Teatro Vascello, Teatro Tordinona, Teatro del Lido di Ostia and Studio Luigi Pirandello.
