Marcel Duchamp
The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna (GNAM) presents 14 "readymades" by Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) on the centenary of the creation of Bicycle Wheel, the first readymade by the French painter and sculptor. The series was donated to the gallery in 1997 by art critic Arturo Schwarz, and is accompanied in the exhibition by a selection of works and archival documents, fundamental to understanding Duchamp's artistic journey. In addition to the readymades, the exhibition highlights the influence that Duchamp had on the Italian art scene when, following solo shows in Milan and Rome in the mid-1960s, he interacted with a younger generation of Italian artists such as Baj, Baruchello, Dangelo and Patella whose works are included in this exhibition.
