Mattia Preti: Un giovane nella Roma dopo Caravaggio
28 Oct-18 Jan. Celebrating 400 years since the birth of Baroque painter Mattia Preti (1613-1699), this exhibition traces the career of the southern Italian artist known as the "Cavaliere Calabrese."
Preti joined his painter brother Gregorio in Rome, from 1630 to 1649, where he became familiar with the techniques of Caravaggio and painted frescoes in the churches of S. Andrea della Valle and S. Carlo ai Catinari.
On display are 22 paintings on loan from the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Carcassonne, the Uffizi in Florence, the National Gallery of Cosenza and the Pinacoteca di Brera, as well as from private collections in Italy, the UK and Switzerland.
