The Moscow Ballet of Classical Choreography La Classique was founded in 1990 by its current director Elik Melikov, utilising ballet dancers from theatres such as the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev, Odessa and Tbilisi. However, comparisons with the productions of the main European and North American companies are unfair, as budgets and venues are obviously very different, but although danced to taped music and with minimal scenery, the companys small-scale productions are generally good.
