Napoli Teatro Festival
In Mishima, choreography by Ismael Ivo. Born in Sao Paolo, choreographer Ismael Ivo headed the Dance section of the Venice Biennale until last year and worked with young dancers to create new projects. He is at it again in Naples where he has auditioned local dancers to create this work that is described as a “choreography/installation” inspired by the life and creative universe of the Japanese artist Yukio Mishima, who committed the ritual seppuku suicide at the height of a brilliant career. Ivo explores the concepts of art and beauty based on the study of the human body. The stage, covered in rice like a Japanese Zen garden, is the terrain upon which the dancers meet and clash in a ritual celebration in balance between life and death.
