7, 8 April 2005. In 2752, Shutters Shut and Minus (16), choreography by Jiri Kylian, Paul Lightfoot and Ohad Naharin. Founded in 1978 by Jiri Kylian, one of the most outstanding artists of the 20th century for the youngest dancers of Nederlands Dans Theater, NDT2 is adored by audiences and critics alike, and heralded around the world for its superb technique and charming style. Aged between 17 and 22, these fantastic dancers are guaranteed to entertain. The title of Kylians piece 2752 refers to the precise duration of the piece and it is an exaltation of the dancers talents. Large spotlights shift through the dark space casting shadows, texts convey a gamut of emotions and the dance floor undulates, splits and shelters the dancers as they struggle to hold on. Shutters Shut is choreographed by Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon and it is danced to the second movement of Mahlers string-orchestra arrangement of Schuberts Death and the Maiden. Six dancers and a large red carpet are the protagonists. Minus 16 is the companys outrageously funny party piece by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Set to a fantastically upbeat musical compilation from Dean Martins Mambo Sway, cha cha, club house music and traditional Hebrew chant it swirls, moves, sways and stomps.
