New British Jazz.
13-16 April 2005. Organised in conjunction with the British Council which is celebrating 60 years of activity in Italy, the festival is a window onto the reality of new British Jazz and represents an extraordinarily rich and varied panorama, quite different from the better-known north American jazz tradition. The four days of concerts see an impressive line-up of protagonists including Cleveland Watkiss and Orphy Robinson (13 April); then its the turn of the award-winning Soweto Kinch Quartet (14 April). Taking turns on the stage are Dilip Harris and Rob Gallahers Banks of Four with the singer Bembe Segue and saxophonist Courney Pine accompanied by Carleen Anderson (15 April), later on in the same evening Gilles Peterson, of the cult BBC show World Wide, and Earl Zinger perform. The festival ends with trumpet player Abram Wilson presenting his new work Jazz Warrior together with Denys Baptiste and Gary Crosby (16 April ). A discount ticket for all events is available.
