Pikovaja dama by Tchaikovsky.
Until 9 March 2005. Conducted by Yuri Temirkanov, directed by Steven Medcalf, with Robert Brubaker, Vladimir Vaneev, Dimitri Hvorostovky, Elena Obratzova. Known in English as The Queen of Spades, this opera was first performed in 1890 based on a libretto of Aleksander Pushkins story. It is considered one of Tchaikovskys finest and most powerful operas, and is especially notable for its strong delineation of the obsessed Herman and for its neo-Mozartian Pastorale.
