Portrait of a Composer: Pawel Mykietyn
AT ACCADEMICA FILARMONICA
31 May
Composer and clarinetist Paweł Mykietyn was born in 1971 in Oława, Poland. While still a composition student under Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, he debuted in 1993 at the Warsaw Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music with a piece entitled La Strada. His success at that edition of the Warsaw Autumn culminated in a series of new commissions and include the composition of an opera, Ignorant I szaleniec/An Ignoramus and a Madman in 2001. An experimenter in electro-acoustic music, in 2008 Mykietyn was awarded Poland's top arts prize, the OPUS award. He plays the clarinet in the Nonstrom Ensemble, a quartet he founded which specialises in contemporary music. The Accademia Filarmonica Romana presents Mykietyn to the Roman public with a concert organised in collaboration with the Polish Institute during which he plays a varied programme of his works. The concert is preceded by the film Tatarak directed by Andrzej Wajda for which Mykietyn wrote the music score. The film screening begins at 18.30. Free entry.
