Puccini Festival.
21 July-20 Aug 2006. The festival takes place just a few steps from the Villa Mausoleum where Giacomo Puccini lived and worked. It lies between the Lake of Massaciuccoli and the sea. The festival was born in 1930 following Puccinis wishes. For this 52nd edition, the programme prestents the usual line-up of Puccini operas Tosca (directed by Igor Mitoraj), Bohme, Turandot and Madama Butterfly. Also, for the first time in Europe, it will stage an opera entitled Junior Butterfly by the Japanese composer Shigeaki Saegusa. It is the sequel of Puccinis Madama Butterfly, and tells the story of Cio Cio Sans son with the background of world war two and the tragedy of the nuclear bomb (3-9 Aug 2006).
