Romaeuropa: Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare
8-16 Oct. The Romaeuropa Festival presents Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare by Forced Entertainment, featuring 36 Shakespearean works condensed into 40-60-minute performances over eight days at Opificio Romaeuropa, from 8-16 October.
The English-language production is described by Romaeuropa as "one of the most original and radical works" by Forced Entertainment, which was founded in Sheffield in the UK in 1984.
The company acts out the plays on top of a 1-sqm table using normal everyday objects. "A salt and pepper pot for the king and queen. A ruler for the prince. A spoon for the servant. A water bottle for the messenger…"
The production is a highlight of the multidisciplinary Romaeuropa Festival whose action-packed programme features contemporary dance, theatre, circus, art, technology and music, under the title Portati Altrove.
The 31st edition of the prestigious arts festival comprises some 50 events, of which 34 are Italian premieres, with over 145 days of performances, and runs until 3 December.
