ROME. ARTE POVERA ALLA GNAM
21 Dec-4 March 2012.
Rome's Gallery of Modern Art participates in a major multi-venue exhibition that celebrates Arte Povera and involves several Italian museums across the peninsula. The event, directed by art critic Germano Celant, aims both to trace its history and highlight its current developments. The artists who formed the movement in the late 1960s were building upon the utopias of the historical avant-garde and the experimental art of Fontana and Burri. They also adopted an artistic strategy that was free from the constraints of expressive hierarchies and materials. Using all sorts of media and materials, Arte Povera encompassed all sectors of visual art in keeping with its iconoclastic, deconstructive approach. The exhibition shows works by Boetti, Fabro, Paolini, Penone, Pistoletto, Kounellis, Zorio and features a special section on Pino Pascali.
