Romeo And Juliet by the RSC
21 Dec-8 Jan 2005. This world famous love story needs no introduction and nor does its author. This tale of the two young star-crossed lovers caught up in a family feud has been delighting audiences for centuries and has been a career test for young actors and actresses through the ages much like Hamlet and King Lear. By all accounts Sian Brooke and Matthew Rhys have passed this test with flying colours. The Royal Shakespeare Company has included the play alongside their productions of King Lear, Hamlet and Macbeth for this season. The story, as many will know, revolves around the feud between the Montagues and Capulets, Romeo, who is a Montague meets Juliet who is a Capulet and they fall in love. Their love is impossible and ends in tragedy and death, the rest as they say is history. Director Peter Gill has received a great deal of acclaim for this production of Shakespeares tale of love and destiny.
