Rome's literature festival
9-30 June. Rome's Festival of Literature takes place in two locations this year — Piazza del Campidoglio and Casa delle Letterature —from 9-30 June.
The popular initiative celebrates the written word with a host of authors who are invited to write a text inspired by the chosen theme, Cosa resta da fare alla letteratura, as well as read an excerpt selected from a published work translated into Italian.
The 2015 edition of the annual literature festival features a line-up of Italian and international authors who will read from their work, sometimes with the aid of professional actors, and always accompanied by live music.
Some of the writers that stand out this year and will appeal in particular to an English-speaking audience include the celebrated American author Edmund White (who is writer in residence at John Cabot University's annual Summer Institute for Creative Writing and Literary Translation), Northern Irish novelist Robert McLiam Wilson, Nigerian poet and author Lola Shoneyin, Haitian Canadian novelist and journalist Dany Laferrière, and New York writer Matthew Thomas.
The 2015 programme is organised in collaboration with several of Rome's foreign institutes and cultural academies including the Polish Institute of Culture, the embassy of France to the Holy See, the Centre Saint-Louis Institut français, the Slovenian embassy, John Cabot University, the American embassy to Italy, and the American Academy in Rome.
