Sacred and martial dances of eastern India.
30 Oct. 2003. With Ileana Citaristi, accompanied by the Art Vision of Bhubaneswar and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy. The first part of the evening is dedicated to "Odissi" dance, which has religious origins and is one of the main forms of classical Indian dance/theatre. Italian dancer Citaristi, one of the most famous Odissi dancers in India, is accompanied by four musicians: a singer, a percussionist, a violinist and a sitar player. "Manipuri" dance, presented during the second part of the evening, takes its name from a region with an ancient and rich tradition of dance, music and martial arts, which were used for combat but also to train concentration and ability. The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy is the oldest of its kind in India, and was founded in 1954 by President Nehru.
