At the Teatro Regio in Turin there is more Strauss with Salome (26 Feb-9 March), which was premiered in Dresden four years earlier than Elektra on 9 December 1905. It delighted the avant-garde of the age with its musical vitality and impetuosity, but it scandalized the conformists with the brazenness of its libretto.
