At the Teatro Regio in Parma, the third annual Verdi Festival opens with Simon Boccanegra, 4-13 May. The conductor will be Bruno Bartoletti, and the scenery, costumes and direction will all be by Hugo De Ana. If De Anas latest productions Norma in Verona and Marie Victoire in Rome are anything to go by, then this Simon Boccanegra will flaunt a sumptuous backdrop for great human dramas, which De Ana will explore with his usual style and psychological insight.
