Sioned Huws
In Aomori Project, by Sioned Huws. Huws is a young dancer/choreographer who creates dynamic works that challenge and integrate different art forms whilst they reflect on the physical structure of the reality she finds herself in. Her ongoing Aomori Project was started in 2008 in response to the arctic conditions of northern Japan where she was offered a residency at the Aomori Arts Center. Since then, the work has existed in various forms, developing with a wide range of artists and performers. Each year a new narrative is formally composed and adapted to diverse casts, contexts and architecture. Huws is currently exploring the complexity of structure and the relationship between the horizontal and the vertical. She explains that in the north of Japan where the project began, there is snow for six months a year, a condition that made her disorientated so – she observes – it is appropriate that this production may have the same effect on its audience.
