Solo by and with Israel Galvan
8 Sept. The Festival Flamenco (which gets underway in October) debuts with a solo performance by Spanish choreographer and flamenco dancer Israel Galvan. Solo is Galvan's most risky and experimental reflection on flamenco, in which silence acts as the music and the solo dancer dominates the stage. The stage in question is the Foyer Sinopoli at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Galvan's dance combines avantgarde flamenco within the classical tradition.
Galvan performed at the Edinburgh festival in August, where The Guardian defined him as the "dance maverick who reinvented flamenco"...a cross between Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire, Pina Bausch and Japanese Butoh Kazuo Ohno.
