Spandau Spring Festival
4-20 March 2005.
Taking place in Spandau, a suburb of western Berlin, the Spandauer Frhlingsfest (Spring Festival) is one of the first opportunities of the year to gather outdoors, drink the best in German beer and give the kids free reign to ride the roller coasters, dodgems, go-carting and plenty of other amusements. The Festival has become a pleasant and popular draw for young people and families since it started in 1996 and is open all afternoon and into the late evening. There is a fine fireworks display every evening and what is more admission is free. Spandau itself is also worth a visit for its famous old 12th-century castle, the oldest building in Berlin and one time prison to such infamous Nazi war criminals as Rudolf Hess.
