In Twyla Tharp, choreography by Tharp. The excellent ballet company pays tribute to legendary contemporary choreographer Twyla Tharp performing three of her works, representing the range of her imagination. Opus 111 was created by Tharp for PNB in 2008. It is the sort of deceptively gentle work that gets more complex with each viewing, filled with unexpectedly flexed feet, off-centre turns, coiling arms, jumps with one leg landing while the other seems still in flight. It is set to a series of Brahms string quintets. Its 12 dancers come and go in varying groups, at one point dancing meditatively in a loose line, side by side but moving alone.

Waterbaby Bagatelles, which premiered in 1994, is a glorious symphony of wiggles and swoops, set to a variety of recorded music and performed by a fleet of bobbling dancers in aqua-hued swimwear. Nine Sinatra Songs is a popular and entertaining modern dance classic, created by Tharp almost 30 years ago for her then-existing Twyla Tharp Dance Company. It
