St Valentines Day celebrations all started in Terni in Umbria, where the saint was martyred in 273. Every year thousands of couples ask for his blessing and pledge their love in the Festa della Promessa at Ternis Basilica di S. Valentino. Other ceremonies at the church include a solemn mass on Sat 14 Feb, and the blessing of couples celebrating their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries this year, on Sun 22 and Sun 29 Feb respectively.

Valentines Day events in Terni are scheduled throughout Feb and early March, and include classical and contemporary music concerts, theatre performances and conferences.
