Suzanne Rubin's Serenity portraits in Rome
3 Oct-9 Nov. MAC Maja Arte Contemporanea presents Serenity, the first solo exhibition in Rome by American photographer Suzanne Rubin.
The show comprises 15 images from Rubin's series Serenity, a project which she developed over five years.
Rubin's work is rooted in and nourished by random encounters. She explains her process as a response to the faces she comes across on her frequent walks.
"I'm always walking," she says, "looking, searching for the right face, gesture. I don't know any of these people. They aren't friends, family, colleagues. Strangers catch my eye — on the subway, the street, in a restaurant, gym, museum — [I'm drawn to] an odd gait, an 'off' movement, a distant or uncomfortable gaze."
The exhibition come under the 2019 Rome Art Week programme and is part of the Day of Contemporary Art (12 October) organised by AMACI, a non-profit association of the most important contemporary art museums in Italy.
The show opens at 18.00 on 3 October and runs until 9 November. For full details see MAC website.
