The Exquisite Book Art of Phoebe Anna Traquair
27 April. Coinciding with the exhibition Illuminating Poetry: Pre-Raphaelite and Beyond, the Keats-Shelley House presents The Exquisite Book Art of Phoebe Anna Traquair: an illustrated lecture by Elizabeth Cumming at 18.30 on Friday 27 April. Traquair’s exquisite manuscripts, within the context of her life and work, will be examined by Dr Cumming, an historian and curator who writes on Scottish art and design since 1870.
Phoebe Anna Traquair (1852-1936) was born and trained as a traditional artist in Dublin, later gaining recognition in Edinburgh as a leading member of the Scottish Arts and Crafts movement. She was most celebrated for her literary illustrations and for illuminating poetry, precious examples of which are in the collection of the Keats-Shelley House in Rome.
