This vibrant and ethnic re-interpretation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, according to the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, is becoming something of a classic in itself and returns to the Rome stage following enormous popular and critical success.
The magic of jazz and strains of pop, reggae and rock pervade Mozart’s much-loved masterpiece in a mélange made up of the original score and some adapted music thanks to the musical and artistic direction of Mario Tronco who heads the multicultural Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio.
Together with Leandro Piccioni, with whom he has arranged the music, he has produced a vision in which Tamino is a Cuban percussionist, Sarastro plays the Andean flute, and the Queen of the Night is an Italian punk with an Arabian gang following.
This extraordinary international production has been received with critical and public acclaim as it builds on the universal appeal of Mozart's opera and transforms it into something entirely new.
